Piñata Apples: A Review
Last week, I got an email asking me if I wanted a sample of Piñata apples from Stemilt Growers. Stemilt is a farm based in Wenatchee, Washington which is about 2.5 hours from Seattle. I got two beautiful apples on Friday. Piñata is a cross between England’s Cox’s Orange Pippin, Russia’s Duchess of Oldenburg, and the classic American apple, Golden Delicious. The Piñata apples reminded me of Honeycrisp, and I really liked them.
I used one of the apples at my friend David’s pizza party on Saturday. Everyone who came to the party brought their own ingredients, and I brought caramelized onions, Italian sausage and a Piñata apple. I sliced the apple thinly, but I would have used a mandolin in the future to make even slices. You can find the apples at Fairway in Brooklyn and online on Facebook.
Pizza At Paulie Gee’s
Last night I stuffed my face with pizza at Paulie Gee’s along with some of the With Love From Brooklyn team. Founder Dara Furlow just launched the site this week which features curated gift baskets of local Brooklyn artisan food producers as well as illustrations from Claudia Pearson and a bikes from Brooklyn Cruiser. I am on the “taste panel” of With Love From Brooklyn and I will be curating a special gift basket for Valentine’s Day.

The Duo Dishes, Chrystal and Amir made pizza with lemon ricotta, sun-dried tomato, mushrooms, and spinach. I love the idea of sprinkling polenta on the crust to add texture.
